چکیده

We present a novel gravitational-wave detection algorithm that conducts matched-filter search stochastically across the compact binary parameter space rather than relying on fixed bank of template waveforms. This technique is competitive with standard template-bank-driven pipelines in both computational cost and sensitivity. However, complexity analysis simpler, allowing for easy configuration horizontal scaling heterogeneous grids computers. To demonstrate method we analyze approximately one month public LIGO data from July 27 00:00 2017 UTC–Aug 25 22:00 UTC recover eight known confident candidates. also inject simulated black hole signals to sensitivity.Received 1 November 2021Accepted 4 October 2022DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.106.084033© 2022 American Physical SocietyPhysics Subject Headings (PhySH)Research AreasClassical holesGravitational wave detectionGravitational sourcesGravitation, Cosmology & Astrophysics

Gravitational Waves from Binary Black Hole Mergers inside Stars.

We present results from a controlled numerical experiment investigating the effect of stellar density gas on the coalescence of binary black holes (BBHs) and the resulting gravitational waves (GWs). This investigation is motivated by the proposed stellar core fragmentation scenario for BBH formation and the associated possibility of an electromagnetic counterpart to a BBH GW event. We employ fu...

Gravitational waves from eccentric intermediate mass binary black hole mergers

Owing to the difficulty of direct observation, mergers of intermediate-mass black hole binaries are relatively less understood compared to stellar-mass binaries; however, the gravitational waves from their last few orbits and ringdown fall in the band of ground-based detectors. Because the typical source is expected to circularize prior to entering LIGO or VIRGO’s range, inspiral searches conce...

A hierarchical search for gravitational waves from supermassive black hole binary mergers

We present a method to search for gravitational waves from coalescing supermassive binary black holes in LISA data. The search utilizes the F-statistic to maximize over, and determine the values of, the extrinsic parameters of the binary system. The intrinsic parameters are searched over hierarchically using stochastically generated multi-dimensional template banks to recover the masses and sky...

Nonlinear Gravitational-wave Memory from Binary Black Hole Mergers

Some astrophysical sources of gravitational-waves can produce a “memory effect,” which causes a permanent displacement of the test masses in a freely-falling gravitational-wave detector. The Christodoulou memory is a particularly interesting nonlinear form of memory that arises from the gravitational-wave stress-energy tensor’s contribution to the distant gravitational-wave field. This nonlinea...

Gravitational Recoil Velocities from Eccentric Binary Black Hole Mergers

The formation and growth of supermassive black holes is a key issue to unveil the secrets of galaxy formation. In particular, the gravitational recoil produced in the merger of unequal mass black hole binaries could have a number of astrophysical implications, such as the ejection of black holes from the host galaxy or globular cluster. We present estimates of the recoil velocity that include t...
